Flying with newborns, infants and children

Flying with a newborn

We’re here to help you at every step of your journey when you fly with your newborn.

Your baby must be at least seven days old to fly, unless it’s for emergency medical treatment. If that’s the case you will need to complete a DAFI form along with a copy of a medical clearance.

Flying with an infant

Infants under two years of age who do not occupy a seat and who have not reached their 2nd birthday at the time of travel are carried free of charge on domestic sectors with charges applicable for International travel.

You can carry an infant under two years old on your lap. We’ll give you a special seat belt extension.

The infant seatbelt must be fastened as directed by the flight crew. On all Airnorth flights, families are seated together whenever possible.

Each infant must be accompanied by a separate adult.

An infant not occupying a seat is entitled to check-in a collapsible stroller or a carry basket (to be stowed in the aircraft hold) and 10kg check-in baggage, this is in addition to the adults normal baggage allowance.

Adults may also carry-on infant food and nappies for use in flight however this is included in the adults normal carry-on baggage allowance.

Flying with children

On all Airnorth flights, families are seated together whenever possible.

Children occupying their own seat are entitled to the same baggage allowance as adults.
