HAND TOOLS, POWER TOOLS & PETROL POWERED EQUIPMENT

EMMERT WOLF ONCE SAID, “A MAN IS ONLY AS GOOD AS HIS TOOLS.” HERE ARE SOME HANDY TIPS TO ENSURE THAT YOUR TOOLS WILL TRAVEL ON THE SAME FLIGHT YOU DO.

FLYING WITH HAND TOOLS

Hand tools such as hammers, screwdrivers, plyers and alike will need to be packed securely in your checked baggage. It is important that you are aware of your baggage allowance prior to arriving at the airport. In the case you feel you may exceed the included allowance, you can purchase excess baggage 24 hours prior to your departure by contacting our friendly Reservations team.

FLYING WITH POWER TOOLS

Battery-powered tools such as cordless drills and chainsaws will need to be packed securely in your checked baggage. The battery can remain inside however only where it is guaranteed that the tool cannot accidentally switch on. Alternatively, you may detach the battery and pack it in your carry-on baggage providing that it is under 100 KW; however, the tool itself will need to be packed in your checked baggage.

Petrol-powered equipment such as whipper snippers and chainsaws will need to follow the below instructions prior to check-in.

FLYING WITH PETROL POWERED EQUIPMENT

Petrol-powered equipment such as whipper snippers or chainsaws will need to follow the below instructions prior to check-in.

  1. All tanks must be drained and left uncapped, and left in a drain position for a minimum of two (2) hours prior to check-in.
  2. All tanks must then be ventilated for a minimum of six (6) hours OR purged using compressed nitrogen gas prior to check-in.
  3. All external surfaces must be cleaned using a water-based degreaser to remove any fuel or oil residue. Appropriate cleaning products can be found at your local hardware store; (food grade, water-based).
  4. The spark plug must be removed from the unit and presented at check-in.

Should your equipment NOT meet this minimum standard, or in the event that it emits a strong or chemical odour, check-in staff WILL refuse check-in of your item for the safety of our customers and staff.
