Alice Springs and Perth will be connected non stop for the first time with Airnorth launching direct services between the two cities today.
Territorians will have the opportunity to travel directly to Perth from Central Australia, with Airnorth launching 3 return services departing each Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Airport Development Group (ADG) Executive General Manager – Airports Rob Porter said this is fantastic news for Alice Springs Airport and the local community.
“Together with the support of the Northern Territory Government’s Territory Aviation Attraction Scheme (TAAS), we are happy to have secured more services to Alice Springs reconnecting Central Australia to the West Coast.”
“Airport Development Group has a long-term vision for the Territory tourism industry and this is another significant step forward in pushing Central Australia forward as a key destination for travellers.”
“We are very excited and confident about the future of the Territory and these new services will help to create positive flow on effects for the whole economy, improving access and liveability for all Territorians.”
Airnorth Chief Executive Officer Daniel Bowden said they were thrilled to provide a new connection between Perth and Alice Springs.
“This expansion not only strengthens our commitment to connecting people and places but also opens a world of opportunities for travellers seeking adventure, culture, and exploration,” Mr Bowden said.
“We believe this route will not only enhance connectivity but also foster economic growth and tourism in both regions and we can’t wait to see the positive impact this new connection will have on our passengers and the communities we serve. Additionally, with the 23,000 seats per annum available, we are poised to meet the growing demand and provide even more options for our valued customers.”
Minister for Tourism and Hospitality Joel Bowden explained the importance of aviation access to the Territory economy.
“The Territory Labor Government is proud of the success of our $20 million Territory Aviation Attraction Scheme (TAAS), which has secured Airnorth’s new route from Alice Springs to Perth and delivered more than 100,000 extra seats for Territorians,” Minister Bowden said.
“Together with our airport partners, Airport Development Group and Voyages Indigenous Tourism Australia, we have achieved additional air routes for the Territory.
“The Territory Labor Government is committed to boosting our tourism industry and driving our economy to $40 billion by 2030, and more flights to the Territory is vital to getting there.”
