AIRNORTH CELEBRATES FIRST YEAR OF FLYING DARWIN TO MOUNT ISA AND ONTO THE GOLD COAST

Airnorth is celebrating one year of scheduled services from Darwin to Mount lsa and onto the Gold Coast this month, by bringing James Blundell to appear at a free concert in Mount Isa on Thursday 28 October.

The concert, to be held from 6.00pm, is in partnership with Mount Isa City Council who provided Buchanan Park Events Complex as the venue. The setup of Buchanan Park was ideal for the requirements of this concert by Airnorth’s Ambassador, James Blundell.

James Blundell is the recipient of nine Country Music Golden Guitar Awards, double platinum, platinum and gold sales awards, and is a five time ARIA (Australian Record Industry Association) Award nominee. He will be supported on the night by Ron Sellars, who will sing songs from his debut album Sing Me a Little Town.

Airnorth is also offering concert goers with the chance to win two return airfares to the Gold Coast.

“With passenger numbers approaching 5,000 since starting the route, we are confident the direct link between Darwin and the mining town has proven a sustainable business decision”, Ms Simone Saunders, Chief Executive Officer of Airnorth said.

“The first ever service linking Darwin with the Gold Coast has also proven to be popular and further growth is expected on that sector in the coming year”, Ms Saunders said.

Airnorth’s weekly service commenced on 8 October 2009. Travel time between Darwin and Mount lsa is less than two hours with a departure time of 6.00am each Thursday. The continuation of the flight through to the Gold Coast is just over two hours enabling passengers to arrive into the Gold Coast before lunch.

The service provides convenient connections with existing Qantaslink services from Mount lsa through to Townsville.
