Following completed runway works in mid 2018, Airnorth has resumed flying into Milingimbi, a large island off the coast of Arnhem Land. Managed by the East Arnhem Regional Council, this sacred land has been occupied by Indigenous owners for more than 40,000 years.

Milingimbi Island forms part of the Crocodile Islands group in the Arafura Sea. It lies approximately 440km east of Darwin, and 200km west of Nhulunbuy (Gove).

Milingimbi people are the Yolgnu, which forms a group of clans in Milignimbi, Yirrkala and Galiwin'ku.

Today, Milingimbi has approximately 1225 residents.
